KaHuna Massage

KaHuna is a therapeutic massage technique based on the teachings and practices of the ancient Hawaiian Kahunas. In the language of native Hawaiians, “Huna” means “secret knowledge” and a master practitioner of any of the Huna arts is known as a “KaHuna.” Traditionally, KaHuna massage (“Lomi Lomi”) was practiced on the Hawaiian Islands both for relaxation and as one of the Kahuna healing arts.

KaHuna massage differs from other types of massage therapy in two important respects:

  • KaHuna massage incorporates long, flowing strokes using the forearms, elbows, wrists and hands in a continuous, fluid, rhythmic motion that can energize and ground you at the same time. Beautiful rhythmic music and special oils are used to help you relax, rejuvenate and heal.
  • In KaHuna massage, the intention and focus of the practitioner is of paramount importance. They are trained to be totally focused on their client with an attitude of love and compassion. This is the essence of the “aloha” spirit that is sacred to the people of Hawaii.

About KaHuna Massage

Hawaiian KaHuna massage is a unique, flowing, energetically vibrant yet deeply relaxing whole-body massage. The practitioner uses their hands and forearms in long fluid strokes of varying intensity and rhythm up and down and all around the body.

The flow also incorporates stretches, under-body work, deep tissue techniques and sound vibration. The energizing effects of these stimulating movements and creative techniques are combined with clear healing intent and invocations (through chant or prayer) for positive transformation on all levels.

The radiant powerful quality of KaHuna touch communicates love, awareness, balance and compassion. It is the supportive touch that we long for, inspiring clarity and confidence that liberates us from the stresses of life and confirms the body-mind expectation of what unconditional loving touch really is."

It is often said that KaHuna massage is a holistic natural therapy designed to heal the body, mind and spirit. A practitioner may start a session by encouraging you to discuss the physical and emotional reasons for wanting to have a treatment. This helps them to attune themselves to your needs before the massage begins. The rhythmic "hula" style movements of the massage practitioner as they "dance" around the table, too, are meant to create harmony between the practitioner and the client.

Seven principles of KaHuna Philosophy

IKE – The world is what you think it is – ‘I am aware’
KALA – There is no limits; we are all one – ‘I am free’
MAKIA – Energy flows from where attention goes – ‘I am focused’
MANAWA – Now is the moment of power – ‘I am here now’
ALOHA – To love is to be happy – ‘I am happy’
MANA – All power comes from within – ‘I am confident’
PONO – Effectiveness is the measure of truth – ‘I am positive’
